January 26, 2026: FHCP welcomes the federal government’s focus on household affordability and efforts to support food security, including new measures intended to help ease cost pressures for Canadian families. Strengthening domestic food production and supply chains, alongside actions aimed at improving transparency and competition, aligns with the broader goal of long-term food system resilience.
As we have said previously, food affordability remains a persistent challenge for many Canadians, driven by price pressures across the supply chain and long-standing structural imbalances in the marketplace. Targeted supports are a positive step, but lasting progress will require comprehensive solutions, including pro-competition policies, effective implementation of the Grocery Code of Conduct, and a continued focus on addressing the underlying drivers of costs across the food system.
FHCP looks forward to working constructively with governments and stakeholders to advance policies that support a competitive, transparent, and resilient food economy that delivers value for Canadians.
