Christine Tacon, CBE
UK Groceries Code Adjudicator

Christine Tacon is best known as the first Groceries Code Adjudicator, a role she finished in October 2020. She achieved significant cultural change in nearly 8 years in office, bringing greater fairness for producers supplying the UK's largest supermarkets. She adopted a collaborative approach to the role and two 3-yearly government reviews concluded the GCA was "an exemplary model of a modern regulator with an international reputation" and "highly effective".

Christine is chair of MDS, a graduate recruitment and training business offering two years' work experience and a qualification in management for future leaders of the food and fresh produce industry. MDS is run on behalf of its members in the food supply chain: from growers to retailers, engineering consultants to agro-chemical producers.

She is also chair of the BBC Rural Affairs Committee which meets to inform producers and researchers about current rural activities: members include a vet, a vicar, farmers of all sizes and types, environmentalists, a national park. The content informs many radio programmes as well as BBC Countryfile.

Christine, a Chartered Engineer, ran the Co-operative Group's farming business for 11 years. She is a director of the AF Group, a national purchasing co-operative for farmers and is a founder of Women in Food and Farming, a network to help women in the industry develop their skills and confidence.
