AGENDA
The Future of the Consumer Industry:
Implications on Operations and Supply Chain
The future will be not predicted - it will be created.
Our industry was built for a world of mass markets, predictable growth, and demographic homogeneity - that world no longer exists. We are in a period of extreme, simultaneous transformation across every front - economic, technological, demographic, and cultural. The assumptions that built our companies are now changing.
Deloitte's Future of Consumer research identifies six forces converging to reshape the markets, business models, and mechanics of the consumer industry over the next 3-5 years. Understanding these forces is critical for supply chain and operations leaders as they rethink resilience, agility, and competitive advantage.
The question is no longer what the future will be - but what the future we choose to create.
Outlook 2026: Just Tariffic
The economy is at a critical juncture. Many sectors continue to grapple with U.S. tariffs and interest rates have fallen further amid sluggish growth, while inflation remains somewhat sticky. At the same time, Ottawa is attempting to rapidly reorient the economy by strengthening internal trade, pursuing new markets, and significantly increasing resilient, and financial markets continue to perform strongly.
What does it mean for the Canadian dollar, housing and domestic markets and prices? Douglas Porter, Chief Economist of BMO Financial Group, will address these questions and more in his 2026 outlook.
From Policy to Practice:
Early Implementation of the Grocery Code of Conduct
With the Grocery Code of Conduct now fully operational, the focus has shifted to implementation. Karen Proud, President and Adjudicator of the Office of the Grocery Sector Code of Conduct, will provide an update on the early days of full rollout and what it means in practice for the industry. She will outline how the Office handles complaints and other information received, discuss current priorities and emerging themes, and explain how the OGSCC is working with the sector to support compliance.
Henry Chambers, SVP Canada & Americas of Sentinel will then bring an industry perspective, drawing on insights from training delegates from more than 100 Canadian CPG companies. As adoption accelerates, he will highlight what companies must know now to keep pace, unpack the DRMP, portal and share the “5 R’s to Code Success,” a practical framework to help organizations stay ahead and drive lasting change across the Canadian CPG industry.
Reignite: Building Resilience in the Age of Burnout
Many organizations - especially in today’s high-pressure supply chain environment - continue to witness the impact of burnout, with reduced morale, low productivity, and a lack of innovation. Emotional exhaustion, a lack of compassion, and a sense of futility have become common experiences for many teams navigating constant disruption and change. The focus is on the process of reconnection to combat burnout and build mental resilience, offering specific strategies to shift culture while bringing hilarity and truth to reignite purpose and productivity.
At the core of this approach is emotional intelligence - a critical capability for today’s leaders and teams. As demands increase and face-to-face connection decreases, the ability to understand, manage, and respond to emotions becomes essential. Practical, easy-to-apply tools will help attendees strengthen leadership, navigate challenging conversations, and foster more connected, resilient teams that can perform under pressure.
Freight at a Crossroads: Capacity, Cost, and Change
Canada’s freight network is facing growing pressure from labour constraints, policy shifts, and changing market dynamics. Driver availability, evolving immigration rules, and cost pressures are raising questions around capacity, pricing, and reliability.
This discussion will explore key risks and emerging trends across trucking and rail, including capacity outlooks, sustainability, operating & network improvements, and where intermodal can drive efficiency - while addressing the gaps that remain.
