What's Happening with Cannabis 2.0? Shoud We Care?

The cannabis industry is still in the early stages of growth and one year after legalization of adult use, there are changes almost daily in what's hot and what's not. Companies are discovering that the industry is not as simple as they predicted. With US manufacturers making products as diverse as gummies, chewing gum, sauces, power and health drinks, chocolates, and body lotions, what should a manufacturer in Canada do?

Edibles, topicals and extracts are part of what is being called 'Cannabis 2.0'. However, which products will be winners and which ones will be 'meh'?  For food processors and retailers this is not a trivial question. Both are seeking to understand the business risks while searching for ways to grow while they manage the stakes of entering such a dynamic and embryonic market.

Sylvain and Brian will explore processor attitudes, perceptions and concerns about new cannabis products with a review of a survey of Canadian processors followed by a fireside chat.

Digging Deep on Drivers of Choice in Cannabis Formats

While we tend to focus on rational reasons for choice, the more powerful drivers are deeply social and emotional - and yet these are often the hardest to surface. With the advent of Cannabis 2.0 and a world of new formats, including edibles, beverages, and topicals, understanding the motivations of choice is essential to creating a portfolio strategy and defined roles for them in a meaningful way for CBD consumers.

Cannabis Edibles and the ISO 22000 Family of Standards

In October 2019, the Standards Council of Canada (SCC) launched a project to position Canada's emerging Cannabis Edibles industry as a world leader using ISO standards. The ISO 22000 family of standards are the global leader in food safety management system standards and a key building block in the global approach to accredited food safety management system certification. The SCC project is currently working with Canadian stakeholders to review the existing standards, identify additional requirements related to cannabis edibles, develop those requirements and collaborate to elevate them to international standards.

CBD: Why Bother Now?

The CBD market is on fire—yet many Consumer Goods companies hesitate to pursue developing CBD-infused products because of reputational and regulatory uncertainties. But with consumer attitudes and the regulatory environment changing fast, companies that don’t start developing CBD products today risk finding themselves left behind the competition.  In this session, we will discuss why CPG companies should bother now and what it takes to prepare.

When CPG and Cannabis Collide

It’s not every day that a new category enters the Canadian retail market and shakes things up.  With the legalization of Cannabis almost a year and a half behind us, both FMCG retailers and manufacturers are provided with a new growth opportunity. Beverages, edibles and topical formats are now available to consumers, which opens up another layer of growth. In this session we will review recent findings from a Nielsen study.
